Hey. Good New Years party last night?
I skipped the party and had a cozy family evening in nice little hotel in the Tyrollean Alps talking about life – what’s been and what’s to come. While I am not big on New Years resolutions, the transition from one year to another does make me think about the year that’s been and what I expect from the year to come. This time around I dwelled a bit longer on the what’s been and actually took the longer perspective.
You see, I’m approaching 40 faster than you can spell out “mid-life crisis”. Since leaving my parents’ happy home some 20 years I’ve lived abroad for 12 years, in 4 countries. In my +15 years of professional experience I’ve held senior positions in sales and sales management in major international IT-companies and I’ve founded and sold off a management consulting company. Despite having had my fair share of hotel room nights I’ve been there to read my daughter bedtime stories and enjoy family breakfast most mornings. I decided early to keep fit and still am.
I guess I have what people call “drive” – an inclination for an ambitious life. It’s taken a lot of discipline and I’ve missed out on things. Here I am, half-way through life (BS, I aim for 100+) and I think I’ve learned a few things on the way worth sharing. Most things are positive. A few things on the list are things I wish were different but I’ve come to accept it for what it is – sad but true. For what it’s worth, here it goes:
