What the f#*k is wrong with people and their food?

I’m angry. Passing a famous fast food chain that nowadays also often have a cafe  I noticed an obese family enjoying lunch with their desserts already lined up. Super-sized meals with all the attributes and muffins as large as GMO-oranges for dessert. I am sure that all tastes awesome!

The parents where probably 35-40 yrs old and the two kids around 10 and 12 yrs old. Parents definitely obese, girl obese and her younger brother possibly only seriously overweight.

Apart from these happy campers confirming all the statistics (I wrote about child and adult obesity here) my immediate thought was: “This is child abuse and should be punished as such.”

Enjoying a hamburger and a muffin every now and then will not kill anybody so if this was a once in a quarter celebration of all of them having lost considerable weight then I applaud them for their resolve, let them enjoy it and wish them luck on their continued journey back towards a long and vital life! But, they way they devoured those burgers I got a feeling this was not the case…

If you as an obese parent take your obese kids to an over-sized fast food meal you are deliberately trying to kill your kids. There’s no two ways about it.

CAPTA (Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, 42 U.S.C.A. § 5106g) defines child abuse as:

“Any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation”; or

“An act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm.”

Just wanted to say.

I agree completely. It might sound like a harsh truth for some people, but it’s the truth nevertheless.

Hi Alissa, Thanks for stopping by! I know, it’s too tough for many people. I really don’t understand what’s going on in the heads of these parents.

Yeah, I get it that some people might be overprotective as parents, but this just seems crazy. I know some people who are obese, and they’re always stuffing their children with junk food. Maybe they project their feeling of hunger to their children, and just get the children used to be eating all the time, so it becomes a neverending cycle. I don’t know if I’ve read it in another article that you wrote here, or somewhere else, but the chances that the children with obese parents will become obese themselves are huge, so it always starts with the parents.
